Dr. David R. Pederson, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, passed away on December 3, 2025. Internationally recognized for his groundbreaking research on infant–caregiver attachment, maternal sensitivity, and the lifelong influence of early relationships, he was a pioneer whose work shaped the field of developmental psychology. David approached research and teaching with deep compassion, valuing the stories and dignity of every family who participated in his studies. A dedicated mentor, he inspired generations of students and colleagues through his generosity, humility, and curiosity.

In honour of his life and legacy, Dr. Pederson’s family has established the Dr. David R. Pederson Award in Attachment and Early Development. This award will support undergraduate students whose work reflects his commitment to understanding and strengthening early relationships. Memorial contributions will help continue the impact of a remarkable teacher, researcher, and human being.
