Western University Be Extraordinary The Campaign For Western

From our family to yours

November 24, 2014

Western University's President & Vice-Chancellor, Amit Chakma: "Thank you for being a part of the Western family, for supporting our tradition of excellence and for giving back when and where it's most needed."

There’s something very special about this time of year.

As the calendar year and busy academic term draw to a close, I notice a subtle, but meaningful, shift in focus on campus toward matters of the heart – a greater emphasis on the importance of family, friends, tradition and giving back.

As I read of the overwhelming generosity and support on the pages of Impact Western, I see these values repeated over and over again.

Particularly, I see families coming together in support of a common goal: to help Western achieve the extraordinary.

The Ball family recognized the importance of preserving history. They gave to Western not only to honour a beloved family member and historic Londoner, but also to foster a family tradition of love and respect for nature in future generations.

By establishing a memorial student award in honour of her late husband, Marjorie Way is keeping Dr. David C. Way’s commitment to helping others alive by giving like-minded orthodontic students a helping hand.

Similarly, this civic-mindedness is reflected in a unique athletics award established by the Smith family to encourage Western students to strive for balance in all aspects of their life – including volunteerism.

As a supporter of Western, you are a cherished member of our campus family, and I would like to express my gratitude for your ongoing commitment. My wife, Meena, and I wish you and your loved ones a warm and wonderful holiday season.

Thank you for being a part of the Western family, for supporting our tradition of excellence and for giving back when and where it’s most needed.
