Western University Be Extraordinary The Campaign For Western

Gordon family supports new wrestling scholarship

by Krista Habermehl | January 30, 2008

The William and Nesta Gordon family recently made a $100,000 donation in support of Western’s wrestling scholarship fund.

The gift recognizes the valuable coaching and experience their son David (BSc ’81) gained as a member of the Mustang wrestling team in the late 1970s.

Ray Takahashi, head coach of the wrestling team and former teammate of David’s, is extremely thankful for the gift. “David Gordon made a big contribution to the team as an athlete and later as a coach. I am proud to see the Gordon family name continuing its association with this program through this leadership gift.”

The donation will be split into an endowment of $80,000, held at Foundation Western in perpetuity, and an expendable fund of $20,000 for athletic scholarships.

The Gordons’ gift is one of the first towards a major campaign to support Western’s wrestling program. Over the past 70 years, Western wrestling has made a significant impact on the development of young men and women, in sport and in life –  changing lives, one wrestler at a time.
