Western University Be Extraordinary The Campaign For Western

Shaping the Western Experience

Shaping the Western experience
Dr. Amit Chakma, President & Vice-Chancellor, Western University

Western’s vision is to be a destination of choice for the world’s brightest minds seeking the best learning experience at a leading Canadian research university. Our commitment to achieving this goal shapes the work we do each day as faculty and staff members – supported in many important ways by the generosity of our alumni and donors.

In this issue of Impact Western, you’ll meet the Cohens who have been long-time benefactors of Western’s Visual Arts program. Their recent gift established the Cohen Exploration Lab and the Cohen Commons, which will give students and faculty access to new and exciting technology and the space in which to collaborate and explore their creativity.

You’ll also meet Charlie Fairbank, whose Robert Cochrane Lambton County Fellowship supports a four-month internship through Western’s graduate program in Public History, offering students opportunities to gain hands-on experience working at the Oil Museum of Canada in Oil Springs, Ont.

We’ve also featured a new initiative led by Education professor Shannon Stewart to identify children at risk for negative development and profiled a recent investment from IBM Canada Ltd. that will support research in advanced computing infrastructure and big data analytics.

These are just a few of many exciting projects underway at Western shaped by individuals like you. On behalf of our campus community, let me take this opportunity to thank you for making Western an extraordinary place where learning, discovery and creativity can flourish.
