Western exempted from national
More than 60 student callers from Western’s Call Centre contact 125,000 alumni and friends each year to update them on the University and to fundraise for Western’s priority projects.

As of September 30, Canadians have been able to register their telephone numbers on the National Do Not Call List (DNCL) as a means to reducing the volume of telemarketing calls and faxes they receive.

As a registered charity that employs a student-operated call centre to raise funds for the University’s highest priority needs, Western has registered with the DNCL as an exempt organization. This means Western is still allowed to contact people and does not have to purchase a subscription to, or download, the National DNCL.

However, it is important to note that Western has always respected the privacy of alumni and friends who do not wish to be contacted by our call centre, and we continue to maintain our own internal “do not call” list. For more about the DNCL, visit:

Western is committed to protecting personal information, and collects personal information under the authority of The University of Western Ontario Act, 1982, as amended to administer alumni relations programs and fundraising campaigns.

Under the act, our alumni and friends may request the University to stop using their personal information for alumni programs and services and/or for fundraising purposes. For the complete protection of privacy notice from Western, please see:
