Western University Be Extraordinary The Campaign For Western

Donating to many causes with one gift

By giving monthly to Western, Monica and Eric Janitis are making a meaningful difference

Many causes, one gift
Since 2006, Monica (BScN'01) and Eric (BA'01) have been regularly giving to Western as a "'way to recognize a place that has given us so much -- professionally and personally."

From his very first day at Western in 1997, Eric Janitis, BA’01, felt at home. “I never questioned my decision to go to Western – it always felt like the right place,” he says.

His wife, Monica, BScN’01, who also started at Western on the same day, agrees.

“Western was, and still is, an inviting and welcoming university,” says Monica, who works at London Health Sciences Centre. “At the time, the nursing program was small and personal, so it really helped push me from the clinical and academic side.”

Eric studied history and psychology, which he has parlayed into a successful career in the financial sector.

“At Western, I learned to think critically and analytically, which has helped me immensely as an investment advisor,” says the London resident, who works at RBC Wealth Management Dominion Securities.

With such foundational Western experiences imprinted on their lives, Eric and Monica have decided to give back. As a couple, they have been regular donors to the University since 2006 (Eric started individually donating in 2002).

“Giving to Western is a way to recognize a place that has given us so much – professionally and personally,” says Monica. “We both had meaningful experiences at Western, which have fostered who we are today.”

A gift to higher education also makes sense, says Eric. “Giving to a university, like Western, is a wonderful way to cover so many good causes with one meaningful gift,” he says, adding universities contribute life-changing research, medical advances and social good to society.

By giving every month, they have made Western part of their routine. “It sets a discipline to our giving where we’re supporting Western throughout the year, and can still give at year’s end when the opportunity arises,” he says.

Such generosity rests in their pride of Western and its tradition of success. “We believe in what Western is doing and accomplishing,” adds Eric.

“We’ve had many blessings in our lives, so we want to give our support to help more Western students realize their dreams.”
