Racing Against the Best:
Send the Formula SAE Car to Germany

About our project

Western Formula Racing (WFR) is a team of students from Western University who design, build and race a new formula-style race car every year. We compete against more than 500 other university teams from around the world as part of the Formula SAE series.

Our team began in 1988 with just a handful of engineering students. Today, the team has grown to become an eclectic group of more than 50 students from various faculties including engineering, social science and business.

We will be entering the 2015 season as the top Canadian combustion team. In July, we want to take our car to the premier Formula Student competition at the Hockenheimring in Germany (FSG). There, our car will compete against 74 of the world’s best student built cars.

What we want to do

Western Formula SAE Car in action

Attendance at the Formula Student Germany event is necessary to solidify our position as one of the top teams. Placing well at the competition will help promote Western University and Western Engineering as one of the top universities and Engineering programs in the world.

Western Formula Racing thrives on three principles:

  • Excellence – Developing highly skilled and effective professionals
  • Endurance – Ensuring the long-term success of the team
  • Enthusiasm – Having Fun

Our program helps to strengthen the quality of students who graduate from Western University. Students develop skills in engineering, marketing, management, leadership and communication.

What we need

Western Formula SAE Car Team at work

We have already made it through a difficult registration process, and have secured a team to host us if we can make it to Germany. Now, Western Formula Racing needs your support to get our 2015 car to Germany for July.

Our team continues to thrive thanks in large part to the support from corporate sponsors. These sponsors help by providing products, materials and services. However, sometimes we have to spend money on items, which cannot be provided by a sponsor.

How you can help

Western Formula SAE Car Team

Now that our car is nearly complete, your gift will go towards putting the finishing touches on our 2015 car. You can help us make mid-season improvements, which will make us more competitive at Formula Student Germany. Your donation will also go towards transporting the car to the competition.

Our goal is to raise $10,000, which will help us get the car to the Formula Student Germany Competition, and represent Western University and Western Engineering on an international stage.
